Serving Those Who Served in Southwest
Southwest veterans who served during a recognized wartime period can apply for Aid and Attendance. This VA pension supplement pays a tax-free monthly amount when a loved one needs ADL help. The household uses those funds to hire Care Solutions as the home caregiver. Eligibility requires 90 days of active duty with one day during a wartime era. Income and countable asset limits also factor into pension decisions. Veteran-Directed Care is a separate pathway for veterans enrolled at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. VDC assigns a monthly budget the veteran controls, with flexibility to pay certain family members as caregivers. The Homemaker and Home Health Aide program contracts our agency directly with the VA. Authorized hours are billed to the VA, and the veteran owes nothing for covered care. Southwest sits in Fayette County, about 60 minutes from the University Drive VA campus. The Fayette County Office of Veterans Affairs helps residents file pension and enrollment paperwork. Our intake team walks families through which program fits their loved one's service history and care needs. We verify wartime dates, gather DD-214 documents, and follow up on VA timelines. Caregivers help with bathing, dressing, meal preparation, medication reminders, and companionship. Light housekeeping and laundry can be added to the plan. Rural distance can make VA appointments difficult, so we coordinate schedules. Respite hours support family caregivers. Call (412) 341-7780.
Our veterans care program honors the sacrifice of those who served by providing exceptional home care services. We understand the unique challenges veterans face and offer compassionate support that helps them maintain independence and dignity in their homes.
